For Debbie Degutis, Christmas in the Park’s new managing director, the beloved San Jose holiday display is a real family tradition. Her parents, Martie and Walter “Dee” Degutis volunteered at Christmas in the Park for decades, and she grew up helping to decorate trees.“Every day, I get to get up and go work at Christmas in the Park. How great is that?” Degutis said last weekend at History Park during Hot August Nights, the annual summer fundraiser held by the nonprofit group. Sonoma County zeroing in on pathogen responsible for 'Tough Mudder' illness

(BCN) -- Authorities in Sonoma County are investigating the cause of illnesses associated with last weekend's Tough Mudder event, which took place at Sonoma Raceway and involved a muddy obstacle course. Sonoma County officials said they are operating under the assumption that the illnesses are being caused by a waterborne bacterial pathogen known as Aeromonas until the investigation can be fully completed. A spokesperson for the Tough Mudder event said Thursday that the organization followed all necessary protocols before and after the event. Reports of rashes, fever, vomiting and other ailments prompted Sonoma County officials to issue a health advisory Wednesday. (BCN) -- A Civic Center Carnival in San Francisco, featuring games and rides for four days, kicks off Thursday.
