Road rage incidents on the rise, concerning for law enforcement

DENVER (KDVR) -- Law enforcement's concern has heightened following two metro area road rage shootings in a week. The first one happened Monday in Aurora, which killed a 48-year-old man. The other happened Saturday morning in Adams County. Three other deadly incidents were reported this year alone. As of May, the Denver Police Department had received 110 reports of road rage or aggressive driving.Matt Cabot, a Thornton Police officer and driving instructor with Top Cops Driving School said when it comes to road rage, there are preventative measures, like simply not engaging. A suspected car thief led police on a high-speed chase that came to a deadly end in Virginia Gardens.According to Miami-Dade Police, officers in Miami Springs were in pursuit of a stolen car at around 2:30 a.m., Saturday.The man behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle wouldn’t stop. Instead, a witness said, he crashed into two cars in the area of Northwest 36th Street and 66th Avenue, then hit a utility pole.The collision caused the car to burst into flames.7News cameras captured the charred remains of the vehicle.The investigation shut down the road for hours.Speaking through a translator, Alonso Garcia, who was driving one of the other two cars involved in the crash, said he was on his way to work when he saw the driver of the stolen vehicle speeding.Seconds later, Garcia said, the motorist came crashing into him.Cameras captured Garcia’s Mitsubishi, which sustained extensive damage.Police said the driver behind the wheel of the stolen car died on impact. A Miami-Dade County officials hosted a generous giveaway in Miami Gardens for local college-bound students.Cars lined up outside the office of Miami-Dade Commision Chairman Oliver Gilbert III on Saturday morning.Gilbert provided laptops to students from four schools who will be starting their higher education.In total, 200 laptops were given away, eliminating one costly but essential item for college courses.This is the 15th year that Gilbert hosts the laptop giveaway. OTTAWA — Anthaea-Grace Patricia Dennis has become the youngest person in Canadian history to graduate from university.The 12-year-old accepted her University of Ottawa diploma for a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science at a convocation ceremony Saturday evening.Patricia Dennis started her university studies when she was nine years old.She completed a 40-page thesis about the relationship between the brain and the hand for right-handed versus left-handed people.Her mother Johanna Dennis said she knew her daughter was special when she was about two-and-a-half years old.The not-yet-teenager is looking to attend postgraduate school next.She told The Canadian Press in an interview that she’s excited to get her own lab and work with others on her research about the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for co-ordinating balance and movement. “I can now call myself a researcher,” she said. “I feel like the master of the cerebellum.”This report...Latest news
