TORONTO (AP) — Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward was taken to a Toronto hospital for tests after being hit in the head by a pitch from Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah in the fifth inning Saturday.Angels manager Phil Nevin said he planned to visit Ward in the hospital after leaving the stadium following the Angels’ 6-1 loss.Batting with the bases loaded, Ward was hit by a 2-0 pitch clocked at 91 mph. An invasive fly species has prompted the quarantine of an upscale Southern California neighborhood, the first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.The Tau fruit fly is native to Asia and is a “serious pest for agriculture and natural resources,” according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture.The flies can be typically found on a variety of fruits and vegetables along with a “select range of native plants in California,” officials said.After the detection of more than 20 Tau flies in the Stevenson Ranch area of the Santa Clarita Valley, a quarantine was placed on residents. (KRON) -- One person was injured after shots were fired on Interstate 980 on Saturday in Oakland, California Highway Patrol said. CHP said the victim was shot in the chin. CHP was notified about the shooting at about 4:07 a.m. It happened on eastbound I-980 near 11th Street. Suspected wrong-way, DUI driver dies in crash on I-280 in Los Altos Hills The victim's vehicle was a white Lexus with two occupants. As the car was getting on the freeway, the victims heard gunshots from the right of the car, CHP said. The passenger was shot in the chin, and the driver transported them to a hospital, per CHP.
