Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo homer as Yankees secure series opener against Reds The Yankees are rolling full steam ahead. The Bombers called upon their own friend in the long ball in their 6-2 win Friday night at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.Aaron Judge drilled yet another home run (13), his seventh in his last 11 games, to get the Yankees on the board in the first inning while Anthony Rizzo (10) yanked a two-run shot off the right field foul pole in the sixth as that was all that would be necessary to secure the win.Three runs would’ve been enough for Clarke Schmidt to get the job done as the right-hander put together a nice bounce-back performance after surrendering seven runs to the Rays in his last outing on May 14.Schmidt tossed five innings, allowing two runs while striking out six — despite a lengthy sticky substance check in the bottom of the fifth where umpires required him to wash his hands. His two charged runs were surrendered by Jimmy Cordero as he replaced the 27-year-old when he gave up back-to-back hits to Jonathan India and...

Xander Bogaerts felt Sox days were numbered long before free agency SAN DIEGO — Xander Bogaerts thought he’d be in Boston for his entire career. It was a sentiment he expressed frequently during his Red Sox days, and he reflected upon that on Friday afternoon, while sitting in his new home dugout at Petco Park, wearing the colors and logo of his new squad, preparing to face the organization he’d been a part of since his first professional game as a teenage prospect, the team he’d long thought he’d be playing for until the day he decided not to play anymore. Then, he admitted that seeds of doubt began to take root in his mind long before he opted out of his contract last November.“I don’t know the date, but somewhere in March (2022),” the 30-year-old shortstop said, a bit wistfully. “You never know what happens at the end of the year, but yeah, somewhere around that time.”It’s easy to connect the dots to the Red Sox signing free-agent shortstop Trevor Story, which happened on March 23, 2022.Th...
