Hit by stolen car, victim waits months for state assistance. He's not alone. PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) – Steven Heller, 35, waited almost a year to return to the spot of his New Year’s Day crash. Looking across the busy intersection, he recalled the fleeting moments before impact.“Just lots of images of what happened that day,” Heller said. “Being hit by this car hurling towards me and then being thrown into the air.”Heller had planned to start the year with a 40-mile bike ride to Hutto. He never made it past Pflugerville.Halfway through the intersection at Gattis School Road and FM 685, Heller heard sirens nearing. He paused and swiveled his head just in time to see a sedan barreling toward him. It ran into Heller, tossing him and cracking his helmet. Heller later learned the car was stolen, fleeing police and driven by a convicted felon, which court records confirm. Traffic Alert: Traffic light malfunction due to crash near William Cannon Drive, US-290 AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A crash near the intersection of U.S. Highway 290 and William Cannon Drive caused traffic issues Wednesday morning. The traffic signal at the intersection began flashing red in all directions due to the crash, according to a social media post from the Oak Hill Parkway community. All drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Plan accordingly if you drive in from Dripping Springs, or through the Oak Hill Parkway construction near the Y at Oak Hill.It's not clear if there were any injuries due to the crash. City of Austin offers chance to honor heroes through ornaments AUSTIN (KXAN) – The City of Austin wants help you honor your favorite Texas historical figure this holiday season. It will do so with cookie ornaments it makes and you decorate. The city said the Parks and Recreation Department's Brush Square Museums will be distributing the salt dough gingerbread cookie ornaments and a variety of decorating supplies to eight Austin sites as part of its fourth annual Gingerbread History Heroes program.The ornaments will be available from Friday until Dec. 31. The city said participants can decorate an ornament as their favorite figure from Texas history. The program is free for everyone. The eight locations are:Brush Square Museums (O. Over 50K driver's licenses could be suspended Friday ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- More than 50,000 drivers could have their licenses suspended Friday due to a COVID-era rule. This rule allowed drivers to self-certify their vision test online, now, those who did so must get another vision check at an approved specialist or DMV location. Those who renewed their licenses between March 1, 2020, and August 31, 2021, and self-certified their vision test will be required to prove their vision meets requirements by December 1. Drivers may Motorists can visit a local vision registry provider such as a participating pharmacy or eye care provider, or use an online test provider. Another option for drivers is to have their vision screened by a doctor and complete a Vision Test Report (MV-619) form. Lastly, motorists can visit a DMV office and have a vision screening performed.

Watervliet man gets 7.5 years for drug, firearm crimes WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Watervliet man was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison on Tuesday, with three years of supervised release, for possessing a firearm and marijuana, with intent to sell as a felon. According to the Department of Justice, Robinson confessed that on November 30, 2021, he possessed 268 grams of marijuana which he said he had intended to distribute. Robinson also admitted that he possessed a firearm in order to protect the marijuana and his drug profits.Robinson had previously been convicted of three felonies and was already on supervised release for a 2015 conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon when he was caught with the marijuana and the gun from this case. Robinson originally pleaded guilty in June.

Man escapes attempted carjacking in south St. Louis City ST. LOUIS - A man who was held up by four people trying to steal his truck in south city was able to get away Wednesday morning.Police said that the attempted carjacking happened near Beck and Morganford in the Tower Grove South neighborhood a little after 3:00 a.m. The victim managed to jump in his truck and drive off, but the carjackers shot at him as he did. U.S. Steel idles steelmaking at Granite City Works ‘indefinitely’ A bullet grazed his backside.  He pulled over in a QuikTrip parking lot at Gravois and Loughborough, where he spoke with police and received medical attention.Police have not released any information about suspects in the attempted carjacking.
