The foundation of the Gophers football team is in place for the 2024 season.Of Minnesota’s 22 starters from this season, six are departing seniors and only one (quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis) has exited via the NCAA transfer portal. That leaves 15 returning starters (seven on offense, eight on defense). Most of the players in that group have announced they are coming back with help from the U’s name, image and likeness (NIL) collective, Dinkytown Athletes.Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck said Thursday that level of success with the rampant amount of players nationwide entering the portal comes down to a few reasons.“At the end of the day, you have to have full transparency, where they fit in the program, where they are, what you are looking for, who you are bringing in (via the portal), how many are you bringing in,” Fleck said on the Quick Lane Bowl media call. “Some guys are going to be able to accept that challenge and some aren’t.”During the season, Fleck had challenged Gophers fans...How to make traffic stops less nerve-wracking? By JOHN RABY and AARON BEARD (AP Sports Writers)CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A federal lawsuit filed by a group of states that includes Colorado alleges the NCAA’s transfer rule for college athletes violates antitrust law.The lawsuit, filed in West Virginia’s northern district, challenges the NCAA’s authority to impose a one-year delay in the eligibility of certain athletes who transfer between schools. The suit said the rule “unjustifiably restrains the ability of these college athletes to engage in the market for their labor as NCAA Division I college athletes.”The lawsuit filed by West Virginia and six other states alleges violations of the Sherman Act. The no-going-back moment is etched in my memory. After four months of looking at beach condos, of flirting with the idea of a buying a getaway that we could also rent out, we finally had an offer in play. My husband, DC, and I were standing in the kitchen when our realtor — we call him Saint Bob — called to say that the sellers had accepted it.DC and I locked eyes. We mentally replayed all the discussions where we’d reasoned that this was the time, now that the kids were on their own, and while we were both still working. We’d rather have tried and been sorry, than never tried and wondered.I nodded. DC told Saint Bob to send the contract.Never mind that this was the first time in my adult, self-supporting life that I felt financially under control. I needed to mess that up.Saint Bob had taken us to see more than a dozen condos and sent links to many more to view online. Some were nice, but lacked an ocean view. Some had the view, but the complex was rundown. Some needed ...Latest news
