ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A Mexican national was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday in the 2019 slaying of the mother of two state police officers in a case that drew national attention and spotlighted Albuquerque’s struggle with crime.Jurors also found Luis Talamantes-Romero, 35, guilty of eight other felonies in the death of Jacqueline Vigil, who authorities say was killed outside her northwest Albuquerque home in an attempted burglary.Vigil, 55, was shot in her driveway in November 2019 as she prepared to leave for a gym.The case went unsolved for months, drawing the attention of then-President Donald Trump as he pushed his tough-on-crime agenda. CHICAGO — The Chicago Department of Transportation has closed part of the DuSable Bridge on Michigan Avenue for “emergency repairs,” impacting rush hour traffic. Crews are on scene repairing the damaged center median rail on the bridge that stands over the Chicago River. CDOT says northbound traffic will be reduced to two lanes and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane during the evening rush. On Wednesday, the Clark County Coroner's Office confirmed the remains belong to Claude Russell Pensinger, who was 52 years old when he was last seen in July 1998. In late July 2022, swimmers found Pensigner's remains floating near Boulder Beach. Portions of remains found on August 6 and 16 were also determined to belong to Pensigner.Pensinger's cause of death wasn't immediately available. When could remains at Lake Mead be identified? AUSTIN (KXAN) — An affidavit revealed more details in a police investigation for a man facing a murder charge related to the death of his father.According to a murder affidavit for 31-year-old Jesse Anthony Rivera, police responded to a 911 call at approximately 8:15 p.m. April 13 in the 10900 block of Mickelson Drive after a man reported he had “just killed someone that wasn’t his dad.”Officers arrived at the home a short time later, and Rivera left the residence while still on the phone with the 911 call taker. The Minneapolis Police Department is partnering with the FBI to investigate a possible bias motive behind an arson attempt at a Minneapolis mosque on Sunday evening.
