NipperFest returns to Music Haven highlighting local musicians

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The NipperFest Music and Arts Festival is returning for its second year in July. Billboard AAA Top 40 artists Jocelyn & Chris will be headlining the one-day event that highlights over a dozen Capital Region musicians. Vermont singer Noah Kahan coming to SPAC Nippertown, an online magazine focusing on music, film, theater and art, explains last year's fest attracted more than 2500 local fans. PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Pittsfield restaurant formerly called Joanne's Elm Street Luncheonette has reopened under new ownership and has a new name. Owner of the Luncheonette, Joanne Longton, closed the restaurant on January 30. "After 48 years in business, it’s time for me to lay down my spatulas and enjoy life," said Longton in a Facebook post. BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Investigators have identified a vehicle of interest in connection with a recent homicide case in Belleville, Illinois.According to Master Sgt. Shane Brown, deputy commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, Belleville police were called to a home in the 400 block of South 29th Street just after 1:20 a.m. Sunday.Officers found a man inside the residence dead of a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Paul Kirby. BRANSON, Mo. - A woman is suing Silver Dollar City for damages, claiming she was injured on one of the theme park's rides in 2021.The lawsuit, which was filed on Thursday, explains that the plaintiff was a visitor at Silver Dollar City in August of 2021 when the incident occurred. The lawsuit does not describe how the injuries occurred but claims that the ride was unsafe and Silver Dollar City neglected to ensure the safety of the ride at the time of the incident. Denver continued its free agent haul Wednesday by agreeing to a two-year contract with former Houston defensive back and return man Tremon Smith, a league source confirmed to The Post.Smith is getting a $1.4 million signing bonus and has base salaries of $1.1 million in 2023 and $1.99 million in 2024. He can earn up to $510,000 in active roster bonuses in 2023 and then up to an additional $1 million in incentives in 2024.Smith, 26, has spent the past two seasons playing for the Texans and has also spent time with Indianapolis, Green Bay and Kansas City.He played in all 34 games for Houston over the past two seasons, starting two games each year. Members of a union that represents Los Angeles Unified School District workers along with the United Teachers of Los Angeles plan to announce dates of an upcoming strike at a rally Wednesday evening.SEIU Local 99 members voted in February to authorize a strike and thousands signed a strike commitment saying they are ready to take action.“LAUSD has continued to harass and threaten SEIU Local 99 members engaging in union activities for a fair contract. In response, our SEIU Local 99 bargaining team has called for a 3-day unfair practice charges strike,” union members explained on their website.They said they are striking for three days to show the district they are “fed up” and want to demand respect for their work. They aim to call out the district's unfair practices they say include threats, interrogation and surveillance of members who participated in last month's strike vote.
