A 43-year-old Apple Valley man has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and being a felon in possession of firearms, officials with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday. Deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to a report of a kidnapping on July 7, at around 12:40 a.m. near the intersection of Apple Valley and Siskiyou roads where they located the victim and her vehicle. An investigation into the kidnapping allegations revealed that the suspect, now identified as Larry Johnson, and the victim had been in a relationship. The two had traveled out of state together and when the unidentified woman did not wish to return, the 43-year-old allegedly forced her to return to Apple Valley with him and assaulted her on the trip back, a SBSD news release stated. “The victim was able to get away from the suspect when they returned to the suspect’s residence in the 17800 block of Siskiyou Road,” the release noted. A third year student at Kingston’s Royal Military College (RMC) is planning to bike the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route in an effort to raise money for the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) program Soldier On.Brooke Baker will be taking on the 4200 kilometre trail that spans from Canada all the way into Mexico, with 200,000 total feet of vertical climbing along the route. She aims to make the trip in 3 weeks, which will mean riding about 200 kilometres per day to meet that goal. The journey is a goal that Baker says she’s had for some time and had sort of been looking for the inspiration to kick start it.She said that hearing about the work of Soldier On and partnering with them seemed like a good reason to go.“I thought it would just be the perfect combination to raise money for a good cause,” Baker said.Soldier On is a CAF program that focuses on aiding the recovery of ill and injured veterans and CAF members through sport, recreational, and creative acti...15-year-old accused of setting off fireworks at Wellington mall, triggering panic

WELLINGTON, Fla. (WSVN) — There was mall mayhem in Palm Beach County this weekend when a loud noise sent people running for their lives, a fireworks scare that led the arrest of a 15-year-old boy.Video captured dozens of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue trucks outside the Mall at Wellington Green, Saturday afternoon.According to fire officials, they were responding to what they say was a reported mass casualty incident. One of the people who called 911 was Mary Drummond. She said she was in the kids play area with her 4-year-old when she realized something was wrong.“Then all of a sudden, on my left-hand side, I saw everybody just running and screaming, so I didn’t hesitate,” she said.Drummond said she and everyone else ran to the exit as fast as they could.Firefighters said at least one person fell in the panic and was taken to a hospital.“Think like something could happen to you or your child, is just like really scary,” said Drummond.Mall security ...Taylor Swift proves Song of the Summer doesn’t have to be new

Is Taylor Swift cheating in the Song of the Summer race? Probably. Is that OK? Probably. Does her hacking of the Song of the Summer “rules” open the field to a flood of awesome potential contenders? Absolutely. Some background: Morgan Wallen’s thoroughly mediocre “Last Night” looks like a lock for the title (three months at No. 1). But Swift is mounting a furious, late-entry challenge with “Cruel Summer.” The twist is “Cruel Summer” originally came out on Swift’s 2019 LP “Lover” and was only released as a single last month.Of course, last summer Kate Bush nearly took the title with a four-decades old song (see the resistance of “Running Up That Hill”). So this summer, let’s let Swift and her four-year-old song give “Last Night” some much needed competition. But if “Cruel Summer” gets a shot at the title, so do a whole bunch of other underappreciated jams and lost gems from years past. Which ones? Glad you asked.“Emotion,” Carly Rae Jepsen, 2015 – Jepsen is the most under-appreciated ...Vocational training offers many benefits for students

Earning a four-year degree is one path toward a rewarding career. However, that path is not the only one available. Enrolling in a vocational program can provide students with the skills necessary to engage in high-demand and well-paying jobs.Vocational school, often referred to as “trade school,” can be an advantageous route for many people who are looking for an alternative to college. In 2020, the National Center for Education Statistics said a four-year private college cost around $50,300 for a student living on campus, while a four-year public college was roughly $24,300 annually. A 2018 poll from The Learning House, a skills training and coursework company, found 35% of students said tuition and other fees were their primary concerns when choosing college programs.Trade schools can cost three times less than other schooling, making them more palatable to young people concerned about the high costs of college. Career and Technical Education programs number around 1,...Latest news
