By Samantha Delouya | CNNWhen MosaicML, a generative AI platform company, decided to upgrade its office space, its CEO and co-founder, Naveen Rao, was set on San Francisco, even though he lives in Southern California.“Everyone is talking about doom and gloom, this and that, but it’s still literally the best place in the world to build a company. There’s nothing like it,” Rao said of San Francisco.Indeed, the city’s economy was hit particularly hard by the pandemic and three years later, it is still dealing with the fallout after a string of high-profile retailers recently pulled out of the city’s once-vibrant downtown. On May 5, as Chancellor Pradeep Khosla began his opening remarks at the 44th University of California, San Diego Alumni Awards at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, some 60 academic worker activists took the stage carrying a cardboard sign. They were there to present him with UC’s “Most Overpaid Worker” award; Khosla had received a $500,000 raise while, the union says, the university was simultaneously refusing to fully implement their recently ratified collective bargaining agreement. Khosla quickly left the stage amid chants of “Pradeep, Pradeep, the rent is too steep!” When the police arrived, the graduate students had relocated outdoors to the sidewalk where, separated by a glass wall, they continued chanting their demands: “What do we want? Our promised wages. When do we want them? Now!”While the action ended peacefully, just over a month later, the university charged 59 graduate student workers from the event’s registration list with “physical assault,” “phy...¿Qué es el Prime Day de Amazon y por qué es en julio?

Quizás,...Owners of 2003 Ram pickups urged to stop driving them after another Takata air bag inflator death

DETROIT (AP) — Stellantis is urging the owners of about 29,000 older Dodge Ram pickups to stop driving them after a passenger was killed by an exploding Takata air bag inflator. The company says owners of the 2003 model year pickups should contact a dealer or the company to find out if their trucks are part of a massive Takata recall. Stellantis says the trucks shouldn’t be driven until repairs are made. The company says the person was killed in a May 13 crash that caused the air bags to inflate. It wouldn’t say where the crash happened or identify the victim. The person ”succumbed to a serious injury consistent with those observed in previous Takata inflator failures,” Stellantis said in a prepared statement Tuesday. The death is the 26th in the U.S. since May of 2009, and more than 30 people have been killed worldwide. The May death is believed to be the first person killed by an exploding front passenger air bag inflator. The rest of the deaths were drivers.Takata...A fire destroyed millions of veterans’ records. 50 years later, families are still seeking answers

The apocalyptic scene is still burned into Mike Buttery’s memory 50 years later: Black smoke billowing from the top floor of the Military Personnel Records Center; bits of paper wafting through the air as dozens of firefighters tried desperately to stem the inferno.“They’d hit it (the paper) with the water, and the water would knock it back up in the air, and then it would float around some more out there,” Buttery, then a janitor at the center, recalls of the wind-whipped paper swirling around the massive six-story building outside Saint Louis. As he watched from a safe remove, Buttery could only think of the millions of veterans — like himself — whose records were being consumed and “how in the world would they get their benefits.”“It immediately went through my mind that those people were losing whatever history there was of their of their service,” Buttery, who served with the Army in northern Vietnam, said during a recent interview from his suburban St. Louis homeThe July 12, 19...Latest news
